Before Purchasing Luggage!

Have your destination in mind before you make your luggage purchase! Length of time you’re traveling and destination will often impact what you should purchase. For a cruise, travelers generally pack more as they see the same people over and over. Plus, there are a lot of activities on a cruise and you may want the appropriate outfits. European trips generally need smaller pieces of luggage. The automobiles overseas are smaller in size, and going “smaller” makes more sense. Also, you may plan to go away for one week or three. Unless you are planning on washing out your clothes, or doing laundry, this will impact the size of the luggage you’ll need to bring! Also, be aware of airline restrictions! There is generally a limit of 62” linear inches for baggage and as well as a 50 pound limit with most airlines. If you don’t comply, there are extra charges!

If you haven’t decided where to go, you can check out Kayak.com for searches on airfares, hotels, car rentals, etc. Kayak says the most popular destinations have been New York, Denver, Las Vegas, Washington, Orlando, Cancun, Miami and Rome. I often use Kayak.com myself. It is a very easy site to use, and it will compare flights, airlines, etc. They recommend lowest airfares are available if you make the purchase by following these guidelines:

• U.S.A. – 3-5 weeks in advance
• Caribbean – 1-2 weeks in advance
• Central America – 5-8 weeks in advance
• South America – 5.5 months in advance
• Europe – 7-8 weeks in advance
• Asia – 8-9 months in advance

It is important to determine where you want to go as the weather will impact how much you’ll need to pack and the weight of the items. Colder weather needs heavier items, plus often boots or larger shoes. Then determine how long a trip you have decided on, and whether you’ll do laundry, or want new all of the time.
