Breeze Through Airport Security
While you are aware that first class passengers usually have a separate line for airport security, and they go through faster because of the shorter line. However, we have found that the TSA-Pre line was the most efficient and quickest way to go. The first class line took more time and was slower when we flew out of New York. TSA-Pre is easy to sign up for, and is only $85.00 for the process. However, the fee is non-refundable if you are not approved. TSA-Pre is for domestic travel only. We do a lot of travel through the US and less internationally, so that is the way we went. There is also a program called Global Entry for international travelers.

You can go to tsa.gov/tsa-precheck to find out all of the information. We were able to locate a facility nearby and we went and applied in person. The whole application procedure for my husband and myself took under two hours. It is probably faster if you make an appointment before hand. We needed our birth certificates, passports, and licenses. We were fingerprinted. We did receive confirmation quickly. My husband was approved in two weeks, but my approval took about a month. We have used it for over ten trips so far. It was fabulous! We have not flown in or out of any airports that did not have this TSA-Pre. When we make airline reservations, we give our TSA-Pre number and it is printed right on our boarding pass. We are immediately directly to the shorter line.

Best of all, you do not have to go through X-rays! You also do not have to remove your shoes when going through security (unless you are wearing heels which will set off the alarms!) They let you leave your laptop inside your carry on. They are not strict about liquids, or gels either. You can usually leave on your belt, jacket, jewelry, etc. They may ask you to remove keys and change, but not always. (It has recently become a little stricter, which we don’t mind!) While you can arrive later at airports, or just have more time to look around, eliminating the X-rays was the best! We have recommended TSA-Pre to everyone. We probably should not, as it is liable to get more and more crowded as passengers become aware of this efficient way to go!
